Re-imagining ‘regular giving’ for the charity sector

‘Round-ups’ is a micro-donations concept giving users unprecented choice and flexibility around their donation, unlike traditional fixed direct debit giving models.

Whilst working at the British Red Cross Celia led the concept development of ‘Round-ups’ through market audits, audience interview, design sprints and user testing - 90% of people surveyed said they would use the product today.

After successfully validating the concept, the ‘Round-ups’ app has been built and is being tested in Q1 2025.

How it works:

‘Round-ups’ gives donors unprecented choice. It allows users to round-up and donate the spare change from everyday card transations. Allowing users to…

  • Choose a round-up threshhold: 10p, 50p £1

  • Set a monthly fixed cap

  • Select the Red Cross appeal they’d like to donate thier spare change to

Unlike the traditional regular giving model, a fixed monthly direct debit donation (which is often hard to cancel) Round-ups enables flexibility, with the controls at the finger tips of the donor.
